Competent Authority

Engineers Ireland is the competent authority for engineers in Ireland.

Application Process

Professional engineers can obtain recognition of their professional qualifications through the Mutual Recognition Agreements that exist between Engineers Ireland and overseas professional engineering organisations or by applying for recognition under EU Directive 2005/36/EC with Engineers Ireland.

Engineering Technician

The Engineering Technician is competent to apply in a responsible manner proven techniques which are commonly understood by those who are expert in a branch of engineering, or those techniques specially prescribed by professional engineers. He/She works under guidance within their allocated responsibility.

How to apply

To apply for the Engineering Technician title, you will need an accredited level 6 qualification and three years' postgraduate experience. You also need to be a member of Engineers Ireland to apply for this title. Use the Engineering Technician Regulations as your guidelines for your application.

To begin your application, log into your member dashboard and select My Professional Title.

Application fee

The application fee for Engineering Technician is €275, which you must submit before the deadline in January or June for your application to be considered.

Deadlines

There are two deadlines in the year by which you must submit your professional title application – the last Fridays in January and June.

Associate Engineer

Associate Engineers apply current technologies and exercise independent technical judgement in their day-to-day work. In general, they are experienced engineers who actively participate in financial considerations.

How to apply

To apply for the Associate Engineer title, you will need an accredited level 7 qualification and at least four years' postgraduate experience. You also need to be a member of Engineers Ireland to apply for this title. Use the Associate Engineer Regulations as your guideline for your application.

To begin your application, log into your member dashboard and select My Professional Title.
